
Home secy to report to CM on bandh
Mr Banerjee had visited Darjeeling today to get stock of the situation.
“I will report to the chief minister and Calcutta High Court about the situation I have noticed there. It is like another bandh,” Mr Banerjee said at a Press conference at North Bengal Development Department (NBDD) office in Siliguri.
He said the state government would take all possible measures to restore normalcy in the Hills. Talking about the reopening of the educational institutions in the Hills, Mr Banerjee said it is being considered too.
A high level meeting was held at NBDD office in Siliguri to discuss the law and order situation and to distribute rations among the people of the Hills.
Apart from the home secretary, the food minister Mr Jyotipriya Mallick, north Bengal development minister Mr Gautam Deb, senior civil administrative and police officials were present.
Mr Deb said they had discussed some pre-emptive measures to stop any bandh in the Terai and the Dooars.
“We have discussed some long-term measures to thwart the bandh. Measures will be implemented soon,” he said.
