Gorkhas in Mizoram voice their support for ‘Gorkhaland’
The sit-in was organised to urge the Union government, the Gorkha Community of Mizoram under the Banner of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Mizoram State Committee), Mizoram Gorkha Youth Association, Mizoram Gorkha Sangh, Mizoram Gorkha Nari Samaj, Mizoram Gorkha Students’Union,Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh(Mizoram State Committee) to take immediate and appropriate measures in fulfilling the long standing legitimate demand of statehood to Gorkhaland to be curved out from West Bengal.
The banner/placards read “We strongly condemn the brutal suppression of democratic Gorkhaland by West Bengal government” and “We support Gorkhaland Movement”.
“For the record, the demand for Gorkhaland state is fully reasonable and justifiable in all aspects considering the larger interest and aspiration of Gorkha people in terms of their linguistic and political identity,” organisers said.
The demand for Gorkhaland is also the oldest among the demand for seperate states. “But the Centre has continuously shown partiality by creating other states and neglecting our demands,” they said.
The Gorkha Community of Mizoram said it give full support for the ongoing demand of Gorkhaland spearheaded by recently formed Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee – a conglomeration of 8 political parties including GJM.

“Gorkhaland is our identity as well as birth right in India. Hence, we, the people of Mizoram have full faith on Indian Government that it will do justice in fulfilling the long standing legitimate demand of statehood to Gorkhaland,” they said.
