GJM announces strike on 24 and 25 August and thereafter too

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 22 August 2013: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has announced two days strike on 24 and 25 August in the form of Ghar bahira Janta. The strike is in protest against the police arrest of top brass GJM leaders including the GTA members stated Bimal Gurung. 
Bimal Gurung in his facebook page has stated that there will be no relaxation even on Saturday and Sunday and Ghar Bahira Janata agitation will continue indefinitely till GJM members are released and their cases are withdrawn. The 721 arrested people who are in Judicial custody will also go for an indefinite hungerstrike, he added. 
As per the previous declaration made in the meeting of the Gorkhaland Joint Action Comittee the people in the street programme observing strike was to be concluded by 23rd August. It had announced that there will be demonstration like torch rally on 24 and 25 August and human chain on 26 August.
SO far 12 GTA membersout of the 45 are arrested including one lady member. The arrested GTA members are Ramesh Lama (Peshok) and Prakash Gurung (Rimbick-Lodhoma, Darjeeling) on Aug 4, Anit kumar Thapa (Kurseong-Giddapahar) on Aug 5, Mahendra Pradhan (Sonada-Pacheyang) on Aug 10, Pranay Thapa (Pankhabari- Ambootia, Kurseong) on Aug 11, Kalyan kumar Dewan (Gitdabling-Nimbong, Kalimpong) and Anus kumar Thapa (Tung-St. Mary’s, Kurseong) on Aug 12, Nima Tamang (Homes-Bhalukhop, Kalimpong) and Yogendra Rai (Chimni-Deorali, Kurseong)on Aug 15, Prabha Chhetri (Mahanadi-Tindharia) on Aug 18 and Binay Tamang ( Bloomfield-Rishihat) and Satish Pokhrel ( Relling-Kaijalay) on Aug 21.
Beside them several front line GJM leaders and activists are arrested with supporters. Their bail petition were rejected and they are now in judicial custody and remands. Most of them are shifted to Siliguri in a plea that there are no accommodation in the correctional homes of the hills.
