GJAC chairman sets deadline for GJMM to quit GTA
SNS, Siliguri, 21 August 2013: Fissures that have already come up in the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee ~ the conglomerate of several parties and outfits formed to demand unitedly the separate state of Gorkhaland ~ after the All India Gorkha League parted ways, are likely to deepen further in the coming days if the GJMM refuses to quit the GTA.
The constituent parties demanded the GJMM set a deadline on the matter.
The GJAC chairman, Mr Enos Das Pradhan, said: “We formed the platform on condition that the GJMM would part with the GTA.
The GJMM chief, Mr Bimal Gurung assured us that they would quit the GTA at an appropriate time. But there must be a deadline. It must be three or four months but not exceeding six months. If things do not happen on the expected lines, the constituents of the GJAC might lose patience and faith in the GJMM. Now, it is up to the GJMM to act on its pledge and prove that its commitment is sincere, not spurious.”
He further said the GJMM is taking time to complete some pending works while keeping the GTA alive.
“We will keep patience with them for some more time,” he said.
Calling the AIGL decision to leave the platform as unfortunate, he said the party leadership has been facing some practical difficulties in keeping touch with the GJAC.
Describing the GTA as a failed experiment in the realm of regional autonomy, he said it must be thrown in the gutters in response to the collective demand of the common people.
According to Mr Das Pradhan, the next course of action would be fixed on 30 August.
