Five GJMM leaders held. bandh enters eighth day, cops continue raids

SNS, Kurseong, 9 August 2013: On the seventh day of the GJMM-led indefinite Darjeeling Hills bandh, a total of five persons have been arrested from Kurseong region since last night. It is learnt that the police has continued with their raids across Darjeeling Hills and have arrested five persons in the ensuing period. 
Meanwhile, a senior leader of Jan Mukti Bihari Morcha (JMBM), which is the Bihari Minority Front of the GJMM, Mr Ramesh Prasad has been arrested from his home last night. 
Later, police arrested a block level leader of the GJMM from Garidhura region Mr Santosh Tamang and two activists Mr Raju Pradhan from Dudhia region and Mr Lali Thapa, resident of Sepoydhura from Kurseong. 
Besides these people, police have also arrested a former Kurseong Municipality commissioner Mr Darbeshwar Prasad who is a known GJMM activist. 
Notably, Mr Prasad was a former commissioner of the GNLF to switch loyalty and join the GJMM in 2008. 
Later, all the five arrested persons were produced before the ACJM Court, Kurseong where four of them were released on bail while JMBM leader Mr Ramesh Prasad failed to obtain bail. 
He has been remanded in judicial custody and he will be next produced in court on 21 August. It was learnt that Ramesh was arrested under charges of six cases out of which he was rejected bail on one case of arson in Chimney village in the Kurseong Sub-division in 2011. 
In the meantime, rallies were organised in Kurseong Town in which children also participated to intensify the Gorkhaland agitation.
