CPRM ready to talk about Gorkhaland with state govt

SNS, Kurseong 25 August : The CPRM party in the Hills is ready to talk with the state government but on the issue of Gorkhaland and why it should be formed. The CPRM spokesperson Mr Gobind Chettri said that we are ready to talk to the State Government but we will only sit across the table on Gorkhaland.We will emphasise on the formation of Gorkhaland as the state keeps on saying that Gorkhaland cannot be created. 

He added that the Gorkhaland demand is a people’s movement. “Our party has supported the Gorkhaland movement and has even joined the GJMM in rallies to clamour for the demand. Yesterday too, our supporters united with the GJMM supporters in Darjeeling to demand Gorkhaland in unison,” he said. 

Regarding the ongoing Darjeeling Hills Bandh that has lasted almost a month, Mr. Chettri said: "We have been saying that this is a people’s movement hence we have to take this movement forward keeping in mind the convenience of the people." 

He also said that the Centre must not remain silent on the demand of the Gorkha people “as if we are not Indian citizens”. “Is our movement anti-national or is Darjeeling Hills outside of the country as the Centre is ignoring our issues. 

The government in the country adheres to demand  through the language of bullets and bombs and not to those protesting by using the peaceful means? Without playing the electoral politics, the Centre must hear our grievances to sort the matter. 

Our next meeting of the Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee will be held on 26 August in which along with further political strategies on Gorkhaland, school education will also be emphasized during our discussions. Schools are a heritage in the Hills of which we are very proud of, hence it should not be affected by any means,” he said. 

“We will try to keep the schools open and at the same time take the Gorkhaland movement forward,” informed Chettri.
