China bolstering Gorkhaland agitation- is it so?
KalimNews, Kalimpong: An article written in response to a news titled "China bolstering Gorkhaland agitation: Intelligence" by Drimi Chaudhuri, in the Deccan Herald (Kolkata) on 28, 2013 .
Both these contents are figments of imagination based on the perception that state of Gorkhaland is already on the anvil and the non-comformist to this realisation is concocting fashionable stories and innuendoes to malign the demand to a point of degrading the aspirations of the hill people to an anti-national perception.
This may have applied, the last Gorkhaland agitation of 1986 which had no drafted program along the lines presented by the new hill political unit GJM whose Memorandum sent to the Central Govt. on 18/2/2010 signed by Bimal Gurung, President Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha is clear and transparent on the account, addressing the subject: Draft Proposal for Interim Arrangement till 31.12.2011 addressed to Shri P.Chidambaran, Hon’ble Home Minister Govt. of India. In foreword to the said draft, in para two, the legality of the demand is conspicuously stated, quote “… the legitimate demand of the people of the region for the creation of a separate state of Gorkhaland under Article 3 of the Constitution”. This should be enough to expose the anti-Gorkhaland opponents even to infer any foreign hand, whichever country insinuated, even China as suggested by Dhrimi Chaudhuri, Deccan Herald, smells dirty insinuating its origination in the backyards of the state, which in the same context seems to have further suggested, quote “Help not only through money but also by training in arms”.

Cooking up such inadvertent stories is basically targeted for the ears of rumour mongers and gossipers who eventually relate the same story as gospel truth to the masses thereby creating a situation (sometimes unimaginable) without a spec of truth as backup. Simply statements in national dailies does not amount to any judgmental decree, on the contrary it is more often the vested interests containing the prologue whatever maybe the contents within, right o wrong, would be a matter of perception of the reader only after reading the book completely. The epilogue will contain the final decision for the reader.
The story of the book Roadmap on the Trail to Gorkhaland (Partially Excluded Area-The Constitutional Guarantee) 2013 by this writer is suggested reading by Dhrimi Chaudhuri, Deccan Herald and form his own opinion thereafter, and then position himself as a critic, be it to defile the contents of the book, but as a journalist should ask any number of questions to the author, so that the matter of the fact is placed on the public domain. This will eventually settle the matter once and for all as far as the Deccan Herald is concerned. Since the insinuation of foreign hands is suggested in the paper it would be only prudent to further clarify the statement in consultation with the contents of the above book, copies of which as per statutory instruction, have already been posted to the national libraries in Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta and Madras where they should be available for reference.
In regard to the references to the CM, Miss Mamta Banerjee, Indian Army’s Eastern Command, August 19, references originating in Nepal, etc have already been replied to by this writer, exposing the myth of the legend.
The new item discovered in the net referred in the title of this response is indeed very interesting for review and analysis. In which it informs, quote “besides monitoring the activities of suspected Chinese informers, agencies are also looking at a couple of monasteries in Darjeeling and Sikkim that were earlier identified as hotbed of Chinese espionage activities”. Hope the CM of Sikkim has access to Dhrimi Chaudhuri’s allegation suffered in the public domain, account of which it necessitates the former to react with the proper stance in apprehending to whatever suggested, whether right or wrong, is a decision which only the State and the Central intelligence can investigate and pronounce their verdict.
Simply the Deccan Herald coming out on its own perception of analysis even if the allegations are suggested by statutory bodies does not prove anything unless detected and action taken thereof.
Simply writing articles in the net with preposterous allegations without proper verification and analysis does not amount to journalism at all but news for mass consumption and maybe even having ulterior motives in directing the same for the benefit of vested interests. This is not to suggest that the allegations are true or false, but only to suggest that as the matter is of immense importance, had the contents been really true surely the authorities concerned, the intelligence both civil and military, are considered naïve (which should not be the case) in their preserves to access the information to the public domain, particularly the Press seems improper at a glance if you’ll pardon the expression.
Since certain monasteries in Darjeeling and Sikkim have been identified for surveillance on account of suspected Chinese informers and activities it would be interesting for this writer to be notified of the names of the monasteries in Darjeeling and Sikkim. If these allegations are unsound and proved otherwise the entire episode of the imagination can infact trigger something else than projected by the allegation.
Such wild charges in national dailies without substantive evidential proofs or records are detrimental to the well being of the country particularly considering the sensitive border areas to which the charges are framed i.e. Darjeeling District and Sikkim. This writer’s impression was that Deccan Herald was a responsible and reliable informative newspaper but this article by Dhrimi Chaudhuri negates that status –regrettably.
