Broadcasting of local channels in Darjeeling stopped

KalimNews, Darjeeling, 8 Aug 2013: Broadcasting of three local channels of Darjeeling town are stopped by the District Administration. These local channels use to air some day to day programmes and informative programmes including news from some time through the local cable Tv network Milkyway and DCCN.
It is reported that Darjeeling Police was directed by the SDO Darjeeling Sadar to conduct raids in the offices of Hamro Channel, Darjeeling Television and Himali Channel. The raid was conducted in the plea of seeking registration of transmission this evening. 
The team confiscated CDs, tapes and transmission equipments of these channels and the broadcast was stopped from the evening. 
On enquiry the police department stated that the raid was not done by the police itself but it was only in accordance to the assistance sought by the district administration. 
It was often reported that the local channel use to air the programme and speeches of the local parties for their publicity. The intelligence department had reported the matter to its higher authorities about violation of code of conduct of the media broadcast by these channels which are unregistered.
