No public toilet at SDO’s office

SNS, Kurseong, 19 July 2013: Due to lack of a public toilet in the premises of Kurseong sub-divisional office (SDO), people who have been visiting it for work, have been facing a different kind of problem for the past several months.
It was learnt that earlier there was a toilet in the premises of the SDO but for the past few years it has been closed by the concerned authority. The problem has arisen since the closure of the toilet in the SDO compound.
Everybody knows that visitors have to wait for hours to finish their official work and during that time, some have been seen urinating or relieving themselves at different corners at the back of the office. In such a scenario, it is embarrassing to both the relievers and the passers-by who use that side of the building.
The Kurseong Sub-divisional Officer, Mr RK Jha, said the old toilet has been closed since it lies in the middle of the main pathway that connects several important offices and the stench becomes unbearable both for the workers and the visitors.
Thus, the problem of water-scarcity is the main reason why the toilet has been shut down.
However, the office has already informed the Kurseong Municipality for proper supply of water and once it is available, we can bring the toilet into use. Mr Jha also said that due to lack of space within the SDO premises to build a proper toilet, the problem has cropped out. He said that they are seriously thinking about making a public toilet in the vicinity with proper facilities.
Mr Jha said that people visiting the office should not be facing a problem as there is a toilet inside the treasury office.
An official said that there is a male and a female toilet inside the treasury office. Interestingly, no signboard has been put up for people to know the direction of the toilet.
