DEEP PRADHAN, EOI, 26 Jul 2013: The Mirik unit of the Trinamool Congress shook today after 35 of its top leaders quit to join the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.
They were welcomed into the GJM and handed the party flag at a meeting at the party office in Mirik bazaar.
The meeting was presided over by Soureni GJM unit party president NK Rana where the TMC-affiliated trade union’s district committee members including Dhanraj Tamang, Sujit Tamang, Bikash Pradhan, Dhiraj Tamang and Anand Tamang joined the GJM.
The newly members pledged to support the Morcha in its fight for a Gorkhaland state in the meeting where Nari Morcha president Sabnam Rai, Yuva Morcha president Binay Subba and others were present.
In response to the development, the hill TMC said, “India is a democratic country and people have the right to choose even as it accused the 35 who quit have joined the GJM to pursue their personal interests.
