Enhance creativity

HT, KATHMANDU: Tulasi Ghimire, veteran director of the Nepali film industry, has directed 21 movies till date. This creative genius also known for his acting, editing and story writing skills is currently busy in releasing his new movie Dristikon outside of Nepal. 

Ghimire, who is also working on a new film, has been awarded numerous awards. The Nepal Film Producer’s Association awarded him with best director award for Dakshina (1985) and for Darpan Chaya (2000). His plans include taking Nepali film fraternity inti international field. Here he recalls his college days

I did BA from Kalimpong College, India in 1972.

I studied Literature, Economics and Philosophy.

COLLEGE LIFE

My college life was a good transition point.

BEST OF COLLEGE LIFE

There was cooperation between friends and teachers. Also there was freedom from uniform — we need not wear uniforms in college.

LASTING MEMORIES

Along with my friends, I performed a drama about late king Prithivi Narayan Shah. We were portraying his childhood days — there was a scene where we had to carry him in a doko. But we failed to manage a doko and used a table instead. This change in props created a funny moment while staging the play. Also, when I won the inter-college debate competition with my friends, we brought back a trophy. And our principal said that the trophy was a precious gift to him.

LESSON LEARNT

I learnt to fight back and give full effort to what one is doing. You must be satisfied with yourself while doing anything. Even if you lose, you must accept it and try to do it in a better way next time.

WORDS TO HEED

Technology is a gift — if used properly, miracles are created, but improper use can lead to destruction. So, use new technology like mobile phones in the best possible way to enhance creativity. Try to develop the feeling of patriotism. Look back at the glorious history of Nepal and help preserve the history for coming generations to know their true identity and culture.

College life is short but full of opportunities. Focus on what you need to do for your future and plan accordingly — because planning during the college life helps to confirm your future.
