ASDLF team visits project site

SNS, Rangpo, 11 July : The delegates of All Sikkim Democratic Labour Front (ASDLF), the labour affiliate of the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front, are reported to have visited the project site of Jal Power Corporation Limited in Jorethang today. 

It is learnt that Mr B M Ramudamu, the vice president of the Front along with its general secretary and some other members of the organisation are said to have met the workers to enquire into their problems. 

The workers are said to have informed them about the non-payment of the Employees’ Provident Fund receipts since 2007. The power project employees have also complained about the discrimination being made between the outsiders and Sikkimese workers. 

It was informed that the non-Sikkimese labourers are receiving better payment than those from Sikkim. The locals of Rhotak complained that they are being deprived of the small contractual works with the big construction company cornering them.

It is also learnt that the management of the company has assured to solve the EPF problem in one month. “They also assured that the remaining problems would be solved in due course in consultation with the higher authorities of the company,” one of the delegates said.
