3 CPM men held for attack on TMC man
SNS, Siliguri, 16 July 2013: Jalpaiguri police arrested three CPI-M activists on charges of alleged attacks on a Trinamul leader and MLA from Kalchini, Mr Wilson Champramari during rural poll campaigning at Makalguri in the Shamuktala police station.
A group of 50 people backed by the CPI-M allegedly tried to attack Mr Champramari when he along with Trinamul supporters, crossed a small river and arrived at Chhoto Chakri village around 12 p.m. today.
Mr Champramari was elected, backed by the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha and recently joined the
Trinamul.
“I don’t know whether the group of people was armed. Apprehensive of their intention we informed police immediately. They fled before police arrived. Police arrested three people,” Mr Wilson Champramari said over phone, during rural poll campaigning in the Dooars.
The local CPI-M leadership denied the charges alleging that Mr Champramari has plotted to earn political mileage. When the matter came to light, police initially suspected GJMM behind the attack.
On the other hand, police found improvised crude bombs from a village at Falakata in Jalpaiguri and arrested one person in this connection.
The bomb squad was asked to examine those crude bits and pieces and dispose them off. Police sent a report to appropriate authorities. Notably, Sashastra Seema Bal, acting on a tip-off, spotted bombs and informed police.
The Jalpaiguri SP, Mr Amit P Javalgi, said: “We are investigating the matter and keeping a close watch on the situation.”
