GJMM to lodge complaint with SEC over being prevented from campaigning

SNS, SILIGURI, 23 JUNE: The Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) would lodge a complaint with the State Election Commissioner (SEC) Ms Mira Pande, on account of the party being prevented from campaigning for the rural polls in Dooars today following a 12-hour bandh which was called by a group of outfits backed by the Adivasi Vikas Parishad.
The Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad (ABAVP) called a 12-hour Dooars bandh today to stop the GJMM chief Bimal Gurung from holding rural poll campaigning in the Dooars.
The GJMM general secretary, Mr Roshan Giri, said that the party had decided to lodge a complaint with Ms Pande tomorrow.
“We would fax an appeal to the state election commissioner complaining that we have been illegally prevented from campaigning in Dooars by the ABAVP. They have been preventing us from independently campaigning in an undemocratic manner. We strongly condemn the move. So we would complain to the election commission,” Mr Giri told reporters today at Chamakdangi near Sevoke during rural poll campaigning. The GJMM held an indoor meeting at Chamakdangi Primary School with the GJMM activists ahead of the polls. The area comes under Dabgram-I gram panchayat. Talking about the alliance with the Trinamul Congress for the polls, Mr
Giri said it had not been decided yet.
“We are discussing about the poll alliance with the Trinamul Congress. However, it has not yet been finalised,” Mr Giri added. He said the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) had been doing many developmental works in the Hills.
“There may be a bipartite meeting with the state after 15 July. However, we are discussing about development with both the Centre and the state government,” Mr Giri said.
