State to revive four sick units

TNN Apr 25, 2013, KOLKATA: The state government seems determined to revive sick industrial units in the state. In a meeting of the sub-committee for infrastructure and industry that was held by chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers' Buildings on Wednesday, it was decided that the state will take over land belonging to a tea manufacturing PSU in Jalpaiguri's Banerhat and set up an eco-tourism, entertainment and industrial hub on the 180.45 acre plot.
The government will also utilize about 100 acres of land belonging to National Iron and Steel Company (Nisco) in Howrah to set up an industrial park.
"The government has decided to revive all sick industrial units in the state. In this endeavour, four such sick units - Nisco, Neo Pipes, Lily Biscuit and Electro medical - have been identified," industries minister Partha Chatterjee said after the meeting.
Sources said that Nisco has about 106 acres of land in Howrah out of which six acres will be utilized for their own revival and the government will set up an industrial park on the remaining 100 acres.
Of late, the government has been chalking out plans to make use of unused land belonging to some public sector enterprises and work for their revival.
The government had earlier engaged a consulting agency to prepare a report on the blocked land of the ailing private and central public sector units.According to plans, Lily Biscuit that has not been operational for several years will be closed. On the other hand, Nisco and Electro Medical will be revived.

The decisions were taken at the meeting of the sub committee for infrastructure and industry that was held by chief minister Mamata Banerjee at Writers' Buildings on Wednesday. "The government has decided to revive the sick industrial units in the state. In this endeavour, four such sick units - Nisco, Neo Pipes, Lily Biscuit and Electro medical have been identified," industries minister Partha Chatterjee said after the meeting.
Nisco has about 106 acre of land in Howrah out of which six acres will be utilised for their own revival and the government will set up the industrial park at the rest 100 acre of land.
It was also decided in the meeting that the government is taking over 180.45 acre of land belonging to a tea manufacturing PSU in Jalpaiguri, Banarhat where the government will set up an eco tourism, entertainment park and industrial hub. The government will prepare estimates on the project cost.
The government was working for quite some time to use the unused land belonging to some public sector enterprises and to work for their revival. The government had earlier engaged a consulting agency to prepare a report on the blocked land of the ailing private and central public sector units.According to plans, Lily Biscuit that is not operational for several years will be closed. Nisco and Electro Medical will be revived.
