30 days’ custody for murder
TT, Gangtok, May 26: The five youths arrested for allegedly murdering an engineering student of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology were sent to 30 days’ judicial custody today.
The accused were produced before judicial magistrate Suraj Chettri at his residence in Gangtok this evening and were sent to Rongey Jail in east Sikkim.
Rakshit Singh Meena, 22, a third year B.Tech student of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, was beaten to death outside the Live and Loud pub by some local youths following a brawl in the pub here on May 18.
“The investigation is in progress and we will file the chargesheet once the probe is over,” said a senior police official.
The police have booked the accused on charges of murder.
The arrested are Loden Sherpa, 32, Bidhan Pradhan, 32, Gurmey Wangchuk, 35, Sonam Namgyal, 31, and Ugyen Namgyal, 21.
However, the two bouncers of the pub, Phurba Tamang, 29 and Karna Hang Subba, 25, who were also arrested on the same charges, were released on bail on Thursday .
