Adivasi body to launch stir over faulty implementation of schemes

SNS, SILIGURI, 25 February 2013: Leaders of the mainstream ABAVP from the Terai and the Dooars region would launch a stir on 27 February in Jalpaiguri and served a two-point memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner, Mr AK Singh.
The Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad regional leadership would demand implementation of the reservation for Scheduled Tribe in government services.
The leaders would also seek information about the present status of the state government’s plans regarding educational development of Adivasi students in the region.
The ABAVP regional leader, Mr Rajesh Lakra, said: “We are upset over the present recruitment trend where participation of Adivasi people is even lesser than previous years. We have not seen fresh recruitment from Adivasi community at present in both Central and state government offices in the region.”
“Though the government follows a 100-point roster to maintain reservation policy in government jobs, we have not found its proper implementation in the last two years in the region. We would point out the matter before the Jalpaiguri Divisional Commissioner on 27 February,” said Mr Lakra.
Mr Lakra also said: “Earlier top officials of the state government’s education department used to regularly discuss about new plans and programmes for the development of education and educational institutions in the Adivasi-dominated areas. However, the present dispensation has discontinued the system. We have heard a lot about the issues through announcements but practically we have not found its implementation.”
“We would ask the top administrative official about setting up of a Hindi college in the Dooars and Hindi department in North Bengal University following an announcement of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit to Nagrakata last year,” added the Akhil Bharatiya Adivasi Vikas Parishad leader.
