Eight-member internal committee starts inquiry into unnatural death of nurse in Kolkata hospital

PTI, August 14, 2026, Kolkata : An eight-member committee on Friday began an inquiry into the unnatural death of a nurse at the state-run NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, with authorities interviewing employees as part of the probe.
The nurse was found dead in a washroom of the hospital on Thursday, hours after she had started her shift.
A police investigation into the death is also underway.
The internal committee, headed by the head of the hospital’s forensic medicine department, was constituted to inquire into the death, a health department official said.
The committee has been asked to submit its report to the state’s health education department within a week.
