India Issues Urgent Advisory for Its Citizens in Iran

PTI, Apr 07, 2026, New Delhi : As tensions escalate in West Asia following Washington's ultimatum to Tehran, India has issued an urgent advisory urging its citizens in Iran to remain where they are for the next 48 hours.

The advisory comes after US President Donald Trump warned that a "whole civilisation will die tonight" if Iran does not meet his 8 pm Eastern Time (5:30 am IST, Wednesday) deadline to end its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The Indian embassy in Iran instructed citizens to stay indoors, avoid military installations, power infrastructure, and upper floors of multi-story buildings. Those in embassy-hired hotels were advised to remain indoors while keeping in contact with on-site embassy teams.

The embassy also emphasized coordinating any highway movements strictly with official channels and monitoring updates closely. Its emergency contact numbers remain operational.

Around 9,000 Indians, including students, were in Iran when the conflict began following strikes on Iranian targets by Israel and the US on February 28. Nearly 1,800 have returned to India so far.

This advisory is part of ongoing measures to ensure the safety of Indian nationals amid rising regional tensions.
