Delhi: Nigerian National Arrested for Duping Over 100 Women through Language Exchange App

PTI, New Delhi, Sep 29, 2025 :  A 29-year-old Nigerian national, Stephane, alias K Cee Dominic, was arrested from Tilak Nagar, west Delhi, for allegedly duping over 100 women across India. He posed as a UK-based Korean businessman on a popular language exchange app to target single women, police said on Monday.

Dominic was apprehended from his rented accommodation after a detailed investigation, which followed a complaint filed by a woman, Anjali, on September 24. The woman alleged she was cheated out of Rs 48,500 after engaging with Dominic, who introduced himself as Duck Young, a Korean jewelry businessman settled in the UK.

Modus Operandi:

Dominic would use the app to connect with women and gain their trust by claiming to be stranded at an airport, awaiting clearance for large-value cheques or documents. His associates, posing as immigration officials, would then call the victims and demand money for the clearance process. Victims, believing the scam to be legitimate, would transfer money digitally.

In Anjali's case, Dominic initially claimed he was detained at Mumbai airport for traveling without a medical facility card. He then had his associates call her, posing as officials and asking for money. After transferring Rs 48,500, Anjali was asked for an additional Rs 2 lakh, but she refused. At that point, communication from Dominic abruptly stopped.

Investigation and Arrest:

Upon receiving the complaint, the Shahdara Cyber Police Station launched an investigation. The team analyzed call records, bank transactions, and social media profiles, eventually tracing Dominic to west Delhi. During his arrest, police seized a mobile phone containing a fake profile and chat evidence with over 100 women.

Background:

During interrogation, Dominic revealed that he had entered India in 2019 on a six-month tourist visa using a passport procured from Ivory Coast. As Nigerian citizens faced challenges obtaining visas, he used a forged document. After his visa expired, he overstayed illegally and resorted to cyber fraud after exhausting his savings.

The case is being further investigated, and more victims are expected to come forward.
