Morgan House of Kalimpong to be renovated

SNS, Siliguri, 24 February 2017: State tourism department is focusing on the development of tourism in new Kalimpong district. Tourism minister Gautam Deb had said the restoration work of around 90 year old Morgan House will be started soon.

'There be a hanging bridge in the area, garden, restaurants around the Morgan House. The house would also get a facelift. We will also develop the Hill top. Chief minister Mamatah Banerjee has advised us to build some cottages, develop the internal road and also to construct an alternative road. We ha have also planned to set up a tourism centre near the Science Centre. The 23-km road connecting Kalimpong and Lava Loleygaon would also be reconstructed. There will be road beautification, a step up garden, and a play ground. Some cottages will come up there,' Mr Deb said.

Mr Deb will visit Kalimpong to review the plans on 5 March.

"We have targeted to set up 20 new tourist destinations in north Bengal, the works of five such destinations have been completed. These are West Damdim, Chamurchi, Batabari, Tilabari and Jayanti," he added.

Mr Deb also said the state government has planned to open the historical Raj Bhavan in Darjeeling for tourists.(Source & Courtesy:
