A high level meeting was held with Anit Thapa, Chairman of the BOA  of GTA and  Surendra Gupta, Principal Secretary GTA, Ajoy Kumar, ADG; Ashok Prasad, IG, Darjeeling; R Vimala DM, Harikrishna Pai SP, ADM, Adl SP, CMOH, Dy CMOH of Kalimpong was present.
Anit Thapa, Chairman later issued an statement which said that the situation in Kalimpong is getting difficult everyday although today there has been no report of any positive case, however, all are aware that the administration is trying its best.
The meeting discussed on the plan of action for handling the situation.
The statement further stated that understandably, people are scared but as we have already mentioned that we will be fixed in Kalimpong till this situation is under control and the entire GTA is also working on it day and night.
"Another issue which is coming up is that health workers are not being given proper equipment. Well, we would like to clear this. We have sufficient PPE today. All the Health Workers who went in to conduct tests today went with proper PPE' it stated
It added that there are 1000 PPE in stock in the Kalimpong Hospital and 1000 more is expected. Distribution of 250 PPE equipment to hospital group D staff as well is completed and 15000 gloves and 12000 masks and 100 screening machines are in stock.
More N95 masks are to be received for distribution to all the Health workers, police as well. It added that GTA is going to provide free residential and fooding facility and other logistic support to the health workers. DM Kalimpong is going to take care of this.
He further assured not to worry and administration will not leave any stones unturned to provide all to the affected people. Despite the situation in Kalimpong, the IG himself came here along with the Principal Secretary from Siliguri today. People are scared to come here, not only that, but people are also now scared of letting residents of Kalimpong enter their villages. The recent case in Mirik is testimony to the fact where a police officer's wife from Kalimpong was refused entry.
He added " we are losing our humanity and if we lose that we will not be able to win this war. We need to respect our health workers. They are equivalent to God at this point. We have to cooperate with them. You might get angry at us for telling you this but, the people of Kalimpong need to wake up! Did you see the crowd outside the butcher shop this morning? We are amid a very serious pandemic and time and time again we have been telling people to stay indoors but they don't seem to listen. Having non-veg is not important!! we can survive with simple food right now. We request the Municipality to shut the place down. We have to save Kalimpong. Villagers will also have to stop people from coming to Kalimpong town. Else all our efforts will go to waste. Even the police are being unnecessarily burdened. We are going to get strict with law and order here. We are going to stop the movement of vehicles beyond 7:00 pm. Vehicles will be seized if found. We need to change our mindset rather than just complaining, rather than just pointing fingers at the administration, we need your cooperation. We need to save our place first. Suggest us, advice us! we are ready to listen. We have to be a team. We need 100% cooperation. We are focusing on strengthening the health system. We have decided that we are going to set up an Information Disbursement Group and we will release a news bulletin with updates every day."
