Black day: BJP’s hill ally The Gorkha National Liberation Front has appealed to the government to round up those behind the attack

Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Binay Tamang blamed “fascist organisations” for the attack Vivek Chhetri, TT, 7.01.20, Darjeeling: The Gorkha National Liberation Front, an ally of the BJP, on Monday condemned the attack on students at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and said all political parties and religions should unite to protest the incident.

“We condemn the incident at the JNU. This is a black day for India,” Ajoy Edwards, the president of the GNLF’s Darjeeling branch committee, said in a statement.

The GNLF has appealed to the government to round up those behind the attack and said the party firmly believed that all political parties and “followers of different religions” should unite to protest the incident.

GNLF leader Niraj Zimba had won from the Darjeeling Assembly seat as the BJP candidate in a bypoll last year

Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader Binay Tamang blamed “fascist organisations” for the attack. “What happened in our national capital is extremely unfortunate. It was an incident which was totally politically motivated and fascist organisations were behind the attack to destroy the ethos of prestigious educational institution like the JNU.”

The Morcha leader also alleged that the BJP was trying to suppress voices. “The BJP is trying to suppress the voices of all dissent, right from the JNU fee hike to the protests against the CAA, NRC and the NPR.”

In Siliguri, demonstrations and marches were held on Monday in protest against the JNU incident.

While the SFI and the Trinamul Youth Congress held rallies, student organisations of the CPIML (Liberation) and the SUCI, and the Chhatra Parishad held protests at Hashmi Chowk.
