65-year-old inmate kills worker at private home in Kalimpong

MP | 29 March 2018, Darjeeling: A 65-year-old inmate of a private h ome was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday for allegedly murdering an employee of the same home. The incident occurred in Kalimpong.
65-year-old Sai Kumar Rai, an inmate of the Jamgon Kongtrul Memorial Home, located at 8th mile Kalimpong attacked 37-year-old Sarwan Sunwar, a worker of the home. Sunwar later lost his life in Kalimpong Hospital.
Rai had picked up a fight with Sunwar on Wednesday night. He later arrived at Sunwar's room and attacked him with a Khukhuri (Gorkha traditional sword) on his abdomen.
Sunwar, who was critically injured, was rushed to Kalimpong hospital where he breathed his last at 4 am on Thursday.
Police sources stated that Rai has been arrested and the murder weapon recovered. Rai has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced at the Kalimpong Court on Thursday.
Two years ago, Rai a resident of Tushar Tea Estate, in Darjeeling, was brought to the Home in Kalimpong in a helpless condition. Since then he has been a resident of this home.
The Jamgon Kongtrul Memorial Home was founded in 1995 and houses destitute elderly and children.
