Govt to set up advisory council for OBC

MP |  21 Dec 2017 | Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government will set up an advisory council for Other Backward Classes (OBC). 
After Chief Minister held the first meeting of the newly constituted West Bengal Scheduled Castes Advisory Council in Nabanna on Thursday, she tweeted, announcing the formation of the new council for OBC. 
It may be mentioned that Chief Secretary Malay De, Churamani Mahato, minister of the Backward Classes Welfare department and Upen Biswas, chairman of West Bengal Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Development Finance Corporation were also present in the meeting.
It may be mentioned that there were satisfactory discussions over different related issues in the meeting and many proposals have also come up, which will be looked into. There will also be meeting of the council after every 6 months to review different components related to the West Bengal Scheduled Castes Advisory Council. 
She later tweeted: "Today we had the first meeting of the newly constituted West Bengal Scheduled Castes Advisory Council. This Council, with extensive representation of public representatives and experts, is the first of its kind in the country. Created under an Act, this Council will meet every six months and will look after the overall development and welfare of the SC community." 
While speaking about the decision to set up the advisory council for OBC, she stated: "We already have a Tribes Advisory Council. Now, we would also be setting up a new Advisory Council for OBC." 
It may be mentioned that the state government has taken various steps for development of the scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward class populace. In the past six years, the state government has undertaken different development projects for them. 
In this connection, she tweeted: "Extensive development and welfare activities for SC, ST and OBC communities are already being carried out by the Backward Classes Welfare Department, Directorate, SC, ST & OBC Development and Finance Corporation and West Bengal Tribal Development Cooperative Corporation. The ongoing development and welfare activities will further be enhanced in the days ahead."
