Nepalese national held for Sukna violence

SNS, SILIGURI, 7 AUGUST 2017: A Nepalese national was among two persons arrested today in connection with violence that erupted during a Gorkhaland demonstration at Sukna near Siliguri on 29 July.
The Siliguri Metropolitan Police picked  up the two persons for their alleged involvement in the pitched battle that the demonstrators fought with the police at Sukna, the incident that also marked the violence in the Hills shifting to the plains.
The violence erupted after law-enforcing agencies batted an 'armed' Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) rally that was planned to head towards Darjeeling More in Siliguri.
This is the first time a Nepalese national has been arrested in the Gorkhaland movement that started in tune,The state government had alleged that the Hill party had a nexus with Nepal Maoists. though the GJMM had refuted the allegation outright.
Nripen Chhetri and Uday Fagu are aged around 27, police sources said.
While Chhetri is said to be a resident of Sukna, Fagu hails from Ilam district in Nepal that borders the Pashupati area near Mirik in Darjeeling, sources said. "Police today arrested two persons, including a Nepalese national, in connection with the violence at Sukna, where stones, petrol bombs were hurled at the police. Another person hails from Sukna. Investigations have suggested their involvement in the violence and arson," said Siliguri Metropolitan Police commissioner Niraj Kumar Singh.
Asked if the Nepalese national was associated with the Nepal Maoists, Mr Singh said investigations were underway. Sources also said that Fagu had been visiting Siliguri for medical reasons. The duo will be produced in the Siligurt Court tomorrow. The arrests come two days after the arrest of senior GJMM leader Norbu G Lama in Siliguri.
