GMCC forms three cells, says strike to continue

SNS, KALIMPONG, 6 JULY 2017: The Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC) today decided that the strike would continue, with­out any relaxation not even for the schools for an indefinite period.
In the forth all party meet­ing held at Pedong, 21 km away from Kalimpong town, the newly constituted GMCC adopted this resolution.
The GMCC today formed three cells, the legal cell, the human rights cell and data and research cell.
In the legal cell Neeraj Zimba D.K Pradhan, Pravakar Dewan and Trilok Chandra Roka will be the convener of the unit. Arun Chatany will be the convener of the human rights cell and R Moktan will be the convener of data and research cell.
The all-party members constituted the GMCC in its last meeting held in Kalimpong on 29 June.The GMCC today decided that all members of the committee will work together for the cause of Gorkhaland, for the movement and take active participation in all the programmes.
The convenor of GMCC, Kalyan Dewan said that they strongly condemn the 'bar­barous' attitude and activities of West Bengal police, who have been disallowing the vehi­cles carrying essential commodities to travel to Dar­jeeling and Sikkim.
"Siliguri, Jalpaiguri, Mal‑bazar, Oodlabari are the places that are supplying food grains and other essential commodities to Sikkim and rest of the Hills but the police along with the sub divisional officer are stopping the vehicles bearing Sikkim numbers and harassing drivers.This is ille­gal and inhuman, we strongly condemn this, we will talk to the concerned forum," a senior Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) leader Mr Binay Tamang said. They also condemned the alleged indiscriminate firing of West Bengal police in Kalimpong, injuring many innocent people which is causing tension and disturb­ing the peace in the hills.
"We also condemn the brutal lathicharge of police meted out to the innocent driver yesterday. They themselves are responsible for increasing the violence in the hills, added Tamang.
The GMCC also appealed the office bearers of the development boards to resign from their respective posts.
"We appeal and request the  chairman, vice chairman , member secretary to resign from the development boards formed by the West Bengal government, including Siliguri-Terai-Dooars Nepali development Board for the sake of the soil and the mother as soon as possible and comeback home Tamang said adding that they will be sending a written appeal to them,
The meeting started at 12.30 p.m. 13 different parties attended the meeting today and another GMCC meeting is decided to be held on 18 July though they have not disclosed the venue.
