Sikkim's first IPS may come to Darjeeling

EOI, SILIGURI, 18 Jun 2017: Information is trickling in that Aparajita Rai the first Gorkha female IPS from Sikkim is to arrive to Darjeeling to control the ongoing Gorkhaland agitation. 
However, police and administration have not confirmed neither ruled out her arrival at Darjeeling. Media persons across Darjeeling were trying to get the official confirmation about Aparajita’s arrival on Monday. 
Aparijita is said to be strict police officer after the incident of Kolkata where Rai along with IPS Murali Dhar Sharma lathicharged media persons twice while covering the Left’s protest march to state secretariat Nabanna, at Mayo Road and Dufferin Road near Esplanade. 
Aparajita Rai has created history by becoming the first woman IPS officer of Sikkim. The 28-year old girl was allocated IPS cadre after getting 358th rank in UPSC 2012 Examinations. She had cracked UPSC in 2011 too and became the first Sikkimese to get such a high rank in these exams.
Rai is currently posted in Hooghly, she also won awards which proved her ability. Her major achievements involve 1958 Batch IPS Officers’ Trophy for the best Lady Outdoor Probationer, Umesh Chandra Trophy for Field Combat, The 55th Batch of Senior Course Officers Trophy for Best Turn Out and West Bengal Govt Trophy for Bengali.
Agencies: She is daughter of late Gyanendra Rai and Roma Rai, of Zoom Village of West Sikkim. With an impeccable record throughout her academic career, Aparajita is a 2009 BA LLB (Hons) graduate from the WB National University of Juridical Sciences. She earned herself a gold medal in Jurisprudence and Public International Law. She is now posted in Hoogly in West Bengal
