Rainy respite: Monsoon to hit North Bengal in 2-3 days

Rainy respite: Monsoon to hit North Bengal in 2-3 daysMP |  2017-06-06  |  Kolkata:  Monsoon will arrive in North Bengal within 2-3 days but South Bengal will have to wait for a few more days. The weathermen in Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) said that Sub-Himalayan Bengal will witness monsoon showers on Thursday or Friday. However, it will take another 5-6 days for the same to arrive in Kolkata and other parts of Gangetic Bengal.

"Monsoon winds from Bay of Bengal will reach North India through Bangladesh very soon. It will bring monsoon in Bengal on Thursday or Friday," said a senior meteorologist in RMC, Kolkata. It may be mentioned that weather conditions remained dry over the city for quite some time now, especially for the past few weeks and Kolkattans are eagerly awaiting the onset of monsoon. 
"Monsoon will decrease the discomfort and the day time temperature will be hovering around 30-32 degrees Celsius," the meteorologist added. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that there will be normal rainfall over the country as a whole during the southwest monsoon season this year.

Monsoon in major parts of South Bengal usually sets in by June 10 every year. It has been predicted that Monsoon in the said districts will set in by next week. There is also a low pressure trough that is developing over Jharkhand and it has resulted in isolated rainfall in some parts of South Bengal on Tuesday.
