I am not Kishenji who can be eliminated...I have not taken up arms against country, says Gurung

PTI, TT, Darjeeling, June 23 : The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha on Friday threatened to intensify the agitation for a Gorkhaland state and demanded a CBI probe into the alleged police firing on June 17 in which the GJM says three of its men died.
“The agitation for Gorkhaland will continue. We have resigned from the GTA. Our one-point demand is Gorkhaland,” GJM chief Bimal Gurung, making his first public appearance since last week, told reporters at Patlebas, a GJM stronghold..
Gurung, who resigned from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration on Friday together with all the elected members, said the GJM has video footage of the firing.
The police have denied opening fire, and have filed a case of murder, arson, assault on police personnel and conspiracy to incite violence against Gurung, his wife and the GJM for Saturday’s violence.
“I am not Kishenji (Maoist leader) who can be eliminated in a police encounter. I have not taken up arms against the country. I am fighting for the identity of the Gorkhas and in a democracy I have every right to do that,” he said.
The Maoist leader was killed in a gunfight between Maoists and the police in the jungles of West Midnapore district in November 2011, six months after Mamata Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress stormed to power in the state.
”Our fight will continue and I will fight till the end,” Gurung said.
He said the West Bengal government has violated human rights and filed false cases against the GJM.
“We (the GJM) have the video footage of the incident. I demand a CBI inquiry,” he said, referring to Saturday’s firing.
Asked about the Centre's response to the GJM's demand, he said, “Talks are on with the central government and we hope something positive will come up soon.”
He said the GTA was a “closed chapter” and that the next all-party meeting will be held on June 29 to decide the next course of action. The GTA was formed in 2011 in a tripartite agreement, and its terms is due to end next month.
