'Bandit Queen', her aides fall in police net

MP, 21 June 2017, Kolkata: Police arrested five women with arms from Raigunge in North Dinajpur on Tuesday night. Investigators learnt that these women had assembled at a place near Raigunge railway station for robbery.

Domani Devi, Chunni Khatun, Lakshmi Devi, Sinku Devi and Roshonara Khatun – the five accused women — tried to escape from the spot when the police officers chased them. But they could not run away far as the officers arrested them from a place near railway station.

"They were trying to barge into a house near the railway station. But our officers captured them from the spot and seized weapons from them," said a police officer.
The officer also said that country-made guns, sickles and machines for breaking the locks were seized from the accused women. They were produced before the North Dinajpur court and remanded to police custody.
The investigators learnt that these women came from Bihar's Katihar last week and they had a criminal past. "There were several cases against these women in Bihar.

They were involved in the cases of robbery," the police officer said.

Domani Devi, the leader of this women gang is a widow. She had allegedly killed her husband before escaping from the house. Sinku Devi and Roshonara Khatun also had killed their husbands and in-laws.
"These women had broken the lock of an empty house in Katihar a few weeks ago and reached the top floor. They took the valuables from that floor before running away from there. The broken door was noticed by a neighbour who had informed police. It was found that the almirah lock was also broken and the locker was emptied," said the officer.

It may be mentioned that North Dinajpur police have stepped up vigilance to ensure the security of the residents. "We have already conducted some raids and it will be continued," said the officer added.
