Bill relief for estates

TT, Alipurduar, May 5: Tea production in a Duncans Goenka garden resumed on May 3 following chief minister Mamata Banerjee's decision to allow recently opened tea estates across the Dooars to clear electricity dues in instalments.
Birpara tea estate reopened on November 22 last year and since then, there had been no electricity in the garden as Rs 65 lakh was lying due to West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited.
Rishi Malhotra, the manager of Birpara, said: "We have paid Rs 36 lakh and now Rs 29 lakh is due. Electricity has been restored and tea production has started. We are grateful to the chief minister.
