SNS, KALIMPONG, 13 APRIL 2017: Ahead of the municipality elections, the GTA chief Bimal Gurung is set to go on a foundation laying spree. Today he laid the foundation stone for a 1013 bedded hostel in Pranami School which would cost an estimated Rs 2 crores and promised to give them a school bus. With municipality elections knocking at the door, Mr Gurung also attended the Giri Puraskar programme at the SUMI gym hall where figures of Darjeeling, Siliguri, and Kalimpong who have contributed to society through music, art, and writing were recognised.
Mr Gurung in his speech in the SUM' Gym hall said that he has kept Rs 1.5 crores aside for the construction of an auditorium and 4-5 class rooms in the (SUMI) Bhavan.
In this connection, he has asked the school authorities to organise the foundation stone laying ceremony by 9.30 in the morning, saying that there is very little time,'
Gurung also said that he met the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi where he talked about Gorkhaland issue which was included in BJP's manifesto in 2009 and 2014 which is still in the same place as it was.
'I have asked the PM to give proper attention to the Gorkhaland issue' said Mr Gurung.
`I have also highlighted the importance of a central university here in the hills,"
Some 30-35 projects were declared in the past whose foundation laying ceremonies will also be done by tomorrow and the work kickstarted by Saturday, informed the GTA chief also announced that he will soon construct a Bhavan for ex-servicemen for which he is looking for an appropriate location. To what extent the projects will come into existence, no one has an answer but applause lingered when the GTA chief announced the idea of projects.
