MP | 18 April 2017 | Kolkata: Mystery shrouds the death of a college student whose body was found adjacent to an under-construction multi-storeyed building under Pradhan Nagar police station in Siliguri.
The police said that the victim, Nitesh Tamang (19) who was originally from Pedong in Sikkim died after falling from the fourth floor of the building. However, the police are yet to ascertain the real cause of his death. They are investigating if the victim had committed suicide or if there was any foul play behind the incident.
Police said that the victim had been staying at a rented house at the Gurung Basti area. Three of his college friends used to stay with the victim the house. They were all studying management at a local college. The friends of the victim told the police that they heard a loud thud in the morning and found that the victim was lying in a pool of blood on the ground. They informed the matter to the Pradhan Nagar police station.
Police reached the spot and took the victim to the North Bengal College and Hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination. The police were awaiting the post-mortem report as it will throw light on the cause of his death. After hearing about the incident, the family members of the victim reached Siliguri.
Police were interrogating the friends and the family members of the victim.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have been drunk at the time of the incident.
Police also suspect that the victim was consuming alcohol on the fourth floor of the under-construction building when he somehow slipped and fell on the ground.
Police were investigating if there were some other persons at the time of the incident.
Police are not, however, ruling out the possibility of the foul play in the incident. They are also investigating if the victim had gone to the building alone or if there were some other persons.
Police are still clueless as to why the victim would have gone to the building alone at night. Police have started a detail probe into the incident.
