Dubbing it as "winds of change", TMC (Hills) Spokesperson Binny Sharma stated: "This is a clear indicator that people of the Hills want a change. They have discarded the GJM and have voted for development, peace and good governance. The TMC will emerge victorious in other elections too. This is just the beginning."

Incidentally, Municipality, Panchayat and GTA

elections are scheduled be held in the Hills this year. "One of our candidates had to withdraw owing to immense pressure from the GJM, otherwise, the TMCP would have won all the 11 seats," claimed Sharma.

The Students' Council of Bijanbari Degree College compromises 11 seats. In the past years, the Council was run by the GJVM.

"We were defeated by a single vote. Now that the TMCP have won, they have to fulfill the commitments made in their election manifesto including introducing science and commerce streams; honours in seven subjects and two college buses," stated Sandip Chettri, spokesperson, GJVM. At present, the college offers general courses in humanities only. Incidentally, the TMC is making steady inroads in the Hills.
