SNS, SILIGURI, 18 FEB: A second year student of North Bengal University (NB[ was allegedly molested inside the university campus last evening. An FIR has been lodged with the police in this regard.
Many questions have been raised over lapses in security in the campus over the incident. The students of NBC had taken to the streets protesting against the alleged incidents of molestation of a research scholar and a student in August last war.
It has been a long standing demand to install CCTV cameras and take the necessary steps to prevent the entry of the outsiders into the campus. The university sources said the student stay in rented house. The incident occurred near Rabindra Bhanu Mancha.
The officer-in-charge of watch and ward, NBC, Aloke Majumdar said they were looking into the security arrangements of the university. Meanwhile, police have intensified patrolling in the campus following the incident.
"Since the miscreant could not be identified due to poor visibility, a case against an unknown miscreant has been registered. Police patrolling has been intensified in the campus. We have started an investigation," said deputy commissioner of police. Zone II, Siliguri Metropolitan Police Songmit Lepcha.
