Youth loses hand for protesting eve-teasing of sister

Debashis Konar | TNN | Jan 26, 2017, KOLKATA: Jahangir Sheikh, a youth was attacked and his right hand was chopped off by Moinul Sheikh at Khargram in Murshidabad on Thursday, after Jahangir had protested against his sister being teased by Moinul. She was regularly teased by Moinul and he had been stalking her as well. Jahangir said in his complaint to the police that his sister was harassed by Moinul and he had asked Moinul not to disturb his sister.

While he was standing in a local market, Moinul attacked him with a Boti and chopped off his right hand. The locals rushed him to a hospital, but later sent to a medical college as his condition was critical. Doctors felt that the hand cannot be restructured.

Police said that they have arrested Moinul and he had confessed about the crime.He would be produced in the court on Friday.

Sunanda Mukherjee,, chairperson of state women's commission said that this is a heinous crime where the brother had been attacked and hand had been chopped off for trying to protect his sister. Police should charge Moinul with attempt to murder, Sunanda demanded.
