CM Announces three more Boards

SNS, Kurseong, 22 January 2017: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has today announced three more development boards for the people in Darjeeling. With the three boards, Miss Banerjee led Trinamul Congress government had set up a total of 15 development boards for the hill people besides the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (ETA).
Addressing the government's programme at Kurseong today Miss Banerjee said her government would extend all possible support to the people if they work altogether to bring in development through these boards.
"A total of 12 development boards were set up for the development and betterment of different Hill communities, We have set up three more development hoards today following their demands," said the chief minister.
She also said, "Development never comes through confrontation. Work needs to be done by all the 15 boards together. Build housing, roads, water sources and take part in election, I will be with you, and I will extend my full support to you"
The chief minister today had announced the new development boards for the people belonging to Gurung and Khas communities, and one for minority groups.
The chief minister has set up a board for the minority people in the Hills, and named it 'Paharia Minority'. It comprises people belonging to Christian, Bengali, Muslim, Bihari and other communities.
The state has set up development boards for various people belonging to the Lepcha, Tamang, Sherpa, Bhutia, Limboo, Damai, Kami, Magar, Khambu, Bhujel, Sharki, Newar and others.
Notably, chairman and office bearers of all development boards were present at the chief minister's programme at Kurseong today.
Darjeeling police and Siliguri Metropolitan Police had organised the Himal Tarai and Dooars Sports and Festival where the chief minister distributed prizes among the winners. According to her, 540 clubs and nearly 9,000 candidates took part in the sports festival.
Miss Banerjee also ensured all winners that they would be getting a job in police department fol-owing the policy of Jungle Mahal. She asked a senior pol ice officer to report it to director general of police to enroll their names in police records for a job.
The chief minister today also honoured seven personalities from North Bengal's seven districts as Banga Ratna and inaugurated many projects from Kurseong including Uttar-Banga Utsav and Tiger Safari project in Siliguri.
Miss Banerjee also expressed her inability to bring development in the Hills.
She said, "How could I bring in development" The GTA and municipalities are not under our control. We would have brought in more developments had we controlled these bodies.Playing out part, we have set up several boards. All should work together."
