No need to detain Gurung for Tamang Murder: CBI

SNS, KOLKATA. 9 DEC: There is no need to take into custody Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha leader, Bimal Gurung, and 22 others accused in the murder of Gorkha League leader Madan Tamang, the investigating officer of CBI probing the case said before 'the Division Bench of Justice Asim Roy and Justice Moloy Marut Banerjee of Calcutta High Court today.
CBI counsel, Asraf Ali also supported the contention of the investigating officer.
Concluding the hearing of the matter during the day the court directed CBI to place the account of all the witnesses in this case before it. Moreover, 155 documents related to the Case were directed to be placed before the court by the third week of February.
On 21 May 2010, at around. 9.30 a.m.. Madan Tamang was supervising arrangements for a meeting scheduled to be held later during the day near Planters Club. Darjeeling to celebrate the 68th Foundation Day of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League.
During this time, a mob of armed assailants stormed the venue. While some attackers started pelting stones at the people gathered at the venue. three men attacked Tamang directly and hacked him with khukris.
On suffering a critical injury, he was rushed to the Darjeeling District Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
