No damage done at Teesta confluence: NHPC

SNS, Kalimpong, 15 December 2016: The NHPC authorities, reacting to some media reports, claimed that there was no damage at Teesta Triveni confluence from its hydro projects on the Teesta Basin.
It was reported that Teesta Low Dam Project (TLDP) - I and II would be endangered and it is also apprehended that tourism and religious belief of the local people would be jeopardised.
Reacting to such reports, the authorities claimed that the NHPC is a premier and prestigious Hydro Power Development Company of the government of India. It is committed to safe-guarding the economic and religious beliefs of the general public while contributing towards nation building, they said.
TLDP-I & II (combined) HE Project is pro posed to be set approximately 2 km upstream from Teesta Triveni confluence and hence, in no way it shall affect either tourism or the religious beliefs of the local people.
Further the construction of TLDP-I .& II will start only after taking all necessary approvals from the central and state Government.
The survey work for TLDP-I& II had been taken up for finalisation of DPR (Detailed Project Report) only after signing of Memorandum of Under-standing with state government and WBSEDCL In July 2015.
