Heavy rains lash sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal

PTI | Jun 24, 2016, KOLKATA: Heavy rains lashed three districts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal with the weatherman forecasting more such downpour in the region, while a few areas in the Gangetic parts of the state received one or two spells of rain.



Coochbehar received 153 mm rainfall since yesterday, the highest in the state. The neighbouring Jalpaiguri district received 69.2 mm rainfall, while the hill town of Darjeeling received 4.2 mm rains, the Met department said.



Sriniketan recorded the day's highest temperature in the state at 35.4 degrees Celsius, while Kolkata recorded maximum temperature of 34.4 degrees Celsius.




In Gangetic West Bengal, Bankura, Burdwan, Asansol and Sriniketan received 13.8 mm, 4.5 mm, 19.1 mm, 9.1 mm rainfall respectively since yesterday.

The Met department has predicted heavy rains for the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri in the next one day.



It predicted partly cloudy sky with possibility of moderate rains or thunderstorm in the next two to three days for gangetic West Bengal.
