Ghisingh in Siliguri for check-up

HT, SILIGURI, 22 July 2014: The doctor who attended to Subash Ghisingh, the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) president and the former chairman of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, said on Monday that the veteran leader was okay and there was no reason for alarm. Dr Sandip Sen, however, recommended a few tests, including an ultrasonogram.
Ghisingh had left Darjeeling on Sunday evening, sparking speculation that he has once again left the Hills to settle down elsewhere. Some local dailies even went to the extent of saying that Ghisingh left the Hills after realising that he has become irrelevant in the region’s politics. The GNLF condemned such reports.
Mahindra Chettri, a senior GNLF leader, said, “Ghisingh is in Siliguri for a regular health check-up and will be back in Darjeeling soon.”
Sen said, “He (Ghisingh) has been asked to undergo some regular blood tests and a USG for his swollen feet.”
The GNLF chief, who was seriously ill in October, 2013, had not seen any doctor for the last four months. Sources said he had also suffered from a kidney infection.
Ghisingh’s departure from the Hills came two days after chief minister Mamata Banerjee had a one-on-one meeting with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung in Darjeeling.
