(Anti GTA rally in Nagarkatta Photo: BNA) SNS, SILIGURI, 9 April 2012: In a bid to maintain peace and to avoid any untoward incident, the administration of both two districts ~ Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri ~ is on an alert in view of tomorrow’s 24-hour bandh in Siliguri, Terai and Dooars called by the anti-GJMM conglomerate protesting the inclusion of additional lands to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration.
Though the Trinamul Congress-led state government tried hard to pacify the leaders of 18 organisations, who are opposing the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha’s demand for inclusion of additional 296 moujas from the plains, it failed to do so.

State commerce and industries minister Partha Chatterjee and north Bengal development affairs minister Gautam Deb held a meeting with the anti-GJMM conglomerate yesterday.
Speaking to the reporters here today, Mr Chatterjee said: “The state government does not encourage such strike. We requested them to withdraw the 48-hour strike. We are again requesting both the groups, who have called bandhs in the region, to decide otherwise.”North Bengal inspector general of police Sanjay Singh said: “In order to maintain peace and to avoid untoward incident adequate police arrangement has been made.”
“We have not yet received any communication from the state government to take any action against strikers,” Mr Singh added.
Siliguri SDO Vaibhav Shrivastava said that adequate police forces and executive magistrates will be deployed for precautionary measures in the town tomorrow.
