2 hotel staff murdered

KalimNews, Darjeeling, 21 January 2012:Two hotel staff in Gandhi road of Darjeeling were found murdered brutally today. At around 11 am bodies of Sandip Rai 25 an assistant manager and Muhammad Mustafa 40, a waiter of Darjeeling’s Meghma hotel were found in the room no 102 of annex block of the hotel. Body of Sandip bore 15 stab marks whereas Muhammad had 25 injury marks. Sandip belonged to 3 mile of Ghoom and Muhammad  to Islampur.
Police investigation revealed that Muhammad also use to work as a cleaning staff of a nearby bank and he had the key of the bank. Atleast four assailants murdered the duo in their rooms and took the key to break open the bank.  Investigations revealed that they tried to break the vault but were unsuccessful. 
It is speculated that during the night of Friday some assailants with a motive to rob the bank broke into the room of Muhhamad and get the key of the bank but Muhammad refused to part with the key and has stabbed mercilessly and killed in the spot. On hearing the noise Sandip rushed in to the room of Muhammad and he two was stabbed by the assailants. After getting the key of the bank they sneaked in to the bank but failed to break the vault . Police found the door of the  bank open and vault damaged. The key of the bank is still found missing.
Upgradation of subdivision to District demanded
KalimNews, Kalimpong, January 21: Dawa Pakhrin, Ex-GNLF leader and present ly President of Gorkha Rajya Nirman Morcha demanded formation of a separate district for Kalimpong Subdivision before the implementation of GTA. Kalimpong is big subdivision so it is the need of the hour to upgrade it as a district Pakhrin said. He further demanded the formation of several new blocks and upgradation of blocks to subdivision and subdivision to District. Wide postering was also done in Kalimpong in support of the demand.

The possibility of formation of SRC after the UP assembly election is quite evident so all supporters of separate statehood of Gorkhaland must unite and be alert for starting a new agitation, Pakhrin stated addressing a press conference .

DGHC Administrator visits Kalimpong

KalimNews, Kalimpong, January 21:Anil Verma, Administrator of  DGHC visited Kalimpong to discuss on the acute problems of Kalimpong and finding solution thereof. In his presence officials and engineers of concerned departments and state discussed regarding the sewage and potable water scarcity problem of Kalimpong. The meeting resolved that Municipality Engineering Directorate will prepare a project for pumping the water from Relli and Tista river for the distribution of water to solve the problem of water crisis of Kalimpong. It also resolved to formulate a project of solving the sewage and dumping problem of Kalimpong. A proposal to cancel the proposed dumping ground and dumping chute now under construction and find an alternative was also forwarded in the meeting.

Cardamom planters benefited

KalimNews, Kalimpong, January 21: Rs 975 was the highest price in the auction of big cardamom held by Krishak Kalyan Sangathan while the market price is Rs 700 per kg. In a process to stop the exploitation of farmers by agents, the Krishak Kalyan Sangathan is organising auction of cardamom since last year. Cardamom growers are benefitted as they are getting more price than the usual agents and retailers. 

In the presence of the officials of Spices board the auction was held for farmers of Gorubathan Takdah, Alagarh Pedong in which 13 bidders were present. It has announced to start auction of ginger and turmeric from this year.
